Accessibility Statement
We built Rehnuma Awaz so blind and visually impaired people can use the digital world on their own. Our website has to meet the same standard. This statement describes how we built rehnumaawaz.com, what still needs work, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Our standard
We design and build this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we go further where we can: body text meets the stricter AAA contrast level, buttons and links are large enough to tap with ease, and you can see the keyboard focus wherever it is.
How the site is built
- Structure first. Each page has one main heading, headings in a logical order and marked regions, so you can jump between sections with a screen reader. A "Skip to main content" link comes first on each page.
- Two languages, properly marked. We tag English and Urdu text with its language, so your screen reader can switch voices for you. Urdu pages read right to left.
- Your display, your way. The Display button at the top of each page lets you choose larger text, light or dark colours, high contrast, an Urdu typeface (Nastaliq or Naskh) and reduced motion. The site also follows the settings of your device, including Windows high contrast mode.
- Works when magnified. Pages reflow at up to 400% zoom without sideways scrolling.
- Keyboard and touch. You can use the whole site with a keyboard, a screen reader or touch alone.
- Sound only when you ask. Nothing plays automatically. Voice samples play only when you press their play button, and starting one stops any other.
- Forms that explain themselves. Each field has a visible label. If something is wrong, we explain it in words next to the field, and screen readers announce it.
- Light and fast. Pages carry no advertising or tracking scripts, so they load fast on mobile connections.
How we test
We check pages with automated tools and by hand, using NVDA on Windows, TalkBack on Android and VoiceOver on iPhone, and at high zoom and in high contrast mode. Above all, we listen to blind and visually impaired users, including the people we meet at our community sessions.
Known limitations
- Embedded videos come from YouTube, and we cannot change its player.
- App store pages and downloads on Google Play and the App Store belong to Google and Apple.
- Older documents we link to may not yet meet the same standard. Tell us and we will provide them in an accessible form.
Tell us about a barrier
